Doctor Who Inspired Side Table

Watch me transform this into a T.A.R.D.I.S below:

In case you're unsure what a TARDIS is and don't watch Doctor Who:
This is the TARDIS!
It's glorious and Adam and I have a weird obsession with it!
We've painted it here, and I even made Adam a cake of one here!
So rather than being crazy and going overboard with a home filled with Doctor Who decor, I decided to draw inspiration from the geometry of it, as well as the bold blue color! We had been thrifting for a while, and I finally found one that spoke to me! It was $5.
YES I SAID $5!!!! Crazy, crazy cheap!
After sanding it down, I painted two coats of Zinsser primer/sealer!
We used Glidden paint and got a quart of it in "Rich Navy."
After about 5 hours of hard labor in 108 degree heat outside:
IT WAS FINISHED!
I decided to NOT be lazy and also do the entirety of the inside as well!
HA!
Table - $5
Zinsser - $20
Sandpaper - $3
2 Paintbrushes - $3
Metallic Spray Paint - $5
"Rich Navy" Glidden Paint - $11
Grand Total - $47

  1. That is adorable! And I'm impressed you did the inside! I prolly wouldn't have... I can't tell you how many of those types of end tables I've tossed out over the years cuz they're so chunky and the color of wood is ugly - and now you go and make something so great with one!!! DOH!!!

I used to love Dr. Who, but when David Tennant left, I was too sad to get into it! Sad eh? LOL! Have a good weekend, Julia

    1. DT is my FAVORITE doctor! I was also pretty bummed when Matt Smith came along, but I like him now! Haha

I appreciate you checking this out! Yeah, I am pushing myself to thrift more so that we can fill our apartment with furniture/decor that I have made! We're aiming to save more, and get exactly what we want by DIY projects! So this was really my first time with a furniture re-do--so thank you for your kind words!! It means a lot! :D

    1. Isn't Zinsser the best, Kylie?! I love it so much!

My project this time around would have been much cheaper, had I not needed another gallon of it at the store!
But it's good: lots of uses for it in the future!! :)

  4. I don't know how you can be sure it took 5 hours, time being so wibbly-wobbly and all. :)

  11. Love it!! My grandparents used to have a side table like that & now I wish I had it! I just watched The End of Time (pt. 1 & 2) the other night (*sobs*). I love DT, but I think MS is great, too. Not sure how I'm going to feel about PC!! Hurry up, Nov. 23!
