Our Mini Family: Clam Chowder Bread Bowl

Clam Chowder Bread Bowl

Recipe adapted from All Recipes dot com

Ingredients:

1 large kaiser roll (optional)
  • 3 cups diced potatoes
  • 8 ounces of clam juice
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 cans (about 7 ounces per can) minced clams
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 2 cups half-and-half
  • 1 cup of whole milk
Add potatoes and clam juice, salt, and pepper. Cover and simmer for about 15 minutes, or until potatoes are tender. Remove from heat. Add minced clams with their liquid. Whisk flour into milk; add to chowder with half-and-half. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until clam chowder thickens and bubbles.

Place a measuring cup (I used a 1 cup one) on top of the kaiser roll. Using a knife, cut around the measuring cup and create the opening for your bread bowl. Remove the internal bread and use for dipping.

    1. That is awesome! I love how food can transport us back into time--whenever I eat pickles, I think of my next door neighbor growing up. My mom used to buy the extra big kind in the summer time, and we'd come inside and have a pickle as an afternoon snack! Makes me miss her every time I have one!

I appreciate you stopping by, Joanne!

    1. Kathy you are SO right! Although many would disagree, it's cold here for us Phoenicians! We're used to sweltering heat, and this huge temperature drop has us in the soup mood all the time!
