When I bought one of those plain Jane, wooden sled from Michael's on sale, I knew I wanted to paint it to look run down and shabby! I am overall very pleased with how it turned out! I used some product with this project for the first time, and I really was super uncertain with how the final product would look.
The new product I used was:
Americana "Weathered Wood" crackle (in medium)
Paint entire sleigh in dark brown. The ENTIRE sleigh! To get that aged look, I wanted to use a super dark color underneath all layers.
When dry, apply 1 layer of Americana "Weathered Wood" crackle all over where you want it to look aged. I put it on the topside of the sled, and left the legs untouched.
Let it sit and dry overnight.
In the morning, paint over the dark brown & crackle layers with the colors you want to emphasize! I chose a classic red for the sled seat, and then the yellow accent to make it more shabby!
Using a pencil, I drew out what I wanted on the sled and then painted in plain, white acrylic paint. Let it fully dry & you're done!
