Why We're Taking a Romantic Staycation this Valentine's Day

This Valentine's Day, Adam and I are taking a romantic staycation here in the valley in Arizona.

And we think you should take a staycation, too! Want to know why? Here are a few reasons:

Escape the daily routine
A Valentine's Day dinner date, going out to the movies, or even a night at home is special--and it's special because you're spending it with the person you love. But you know what's even more special? Doing something out of the ordinary with the one you love to spend time with most. Adam and I work from home, so our home is our office as well. With time, it becomes a lot harder to separate our work life from home life, so a staycation is a really great way to alleviate that.

It's more affordable than a regular vacation
If you've taken an out-of-state vacation you know just how much all of the expenses add up: plane tickets, luggage fees, cab rides, etc. When we take a staycation, we're likely only paying for a hotel room and maybe 1-2 meals; in general, it lets us save money but also have time away from home together.

You can create long-lasting memories
As days, weeks, months, and even years roll by with your significant other...things can get, well, uneventful. Adam and I are well past the newlyweds stage, and we're just getting to the point now where we joke about being one of those old married couples we see. Being in our late twenties, it is totally cool to have a routine and be at the point in our lives where we don't always have something crazy going on.

For example, in the last 3 years Adam and I have: graduated college, planned a wedding, got married, and made a huge cross-country move to Arizona. This past year, the biggest thing we did was take an out-of-state vacation to Las Vegas for the first time. Comparatively to the start of our marriage, lately, things have been very much uneventful. So every once in a while, we like to take a staycation and stir things up! Taking a staycation gives us a chance to really adventure around Phoenix and do something we don't normally do (e.g. take a weekend together in a big, fancy suite like we will).

Maybe we'll drink mimosas with breakfast! Or, maybe we'll just lounge around in our hotel suite in our undergarments until 11am instead of getting ready. Or maybe I'll wear something extra sexy to bed. But either way, we always make a point to do something that will leave us with something memorable and intimate that is outside of what we normally do.
Because you'll feel sexier when you're not at home
OK real talk: the first few things I see in the morning when I wake up at home in order are 1) Adam 2) then a pile of laundry I have to do later 3) and then a jar of antacid on the counter from my upset stomach, 4)  a box of tampons next to the bathroom 5) and then headed to the kitchen to make a pot of coffee I see 6) a sink filled with dishes. Sexy? No. Not at all. Let's talk about another scenario for a second:

I wake up in the morning in a hotel suite and I see: 1) Adam
Sexy? HECK YES!

There is something incredibly sexy about a hotel stay. Why? Because it's all about who you're staying with. Have a room with a view? Even more romantic--we'll call that an added bonus. When I feel sexy, it is a lot easier to increase our intimacy. Being that we're starting to feel like that 'older married couple' we joke about, it's important that we continue to work on that part of our relationship even after we feel as though we may have mastered that aspect of our marriage.

One great way to increase intimacy is when you are feeling sexy, you are more apt to want to experiment in bed. Don't get me wrong, Adam and I have been married for almost four years, so we are experienced in this department. But there's always room for something extra--like incorporating products like  K-Y® DATE NIGHT into the equation. If we're looking to spice things up, I'll head down to Walmart to buy K-Y® YOURS+MINE  K-Y® DATE NIGHT--Check out the K-Y® DATE NIGHT pack at Walmart.com for discreet purchasing, too. Also, there is a special Date Night deal that is coming soon! K-Y® DATE NIGHT: $50 value 1 free meal for two people from PEACHDISH.com delivered to your door for an intimate night of cooking together, a $5 VUDU movie credit for you to stream right at home and the pleasure of K-Y® YOURS+MINE  Couples Lubricants.

  1. My husband and I don't do valentine's day. But we rarely can get a babysitter anyway. We're talking about taking a staycation this year since we're not going on a real vacation. We'll probably explore a place in our local area

    1. You should definitely try to make time--I can only imagine how hard it may be to get a sitter, but I can say with certainty that you would have a blast having some time away with just you and the hubby!

  4. Our valentine's staycation will be to the cabin we just bought a few months ago. In fact every vacation will be to the cabin for next year for sure.

  12. I think a Staycation sounds like a wonderful idea. We actually have never been away overnight from our kids since they were born and our oldest is almost 8. For our first time in a long time away together I would rather stay local. You sounds like such a cute couple. :-)

  14. We do Valentine's Day night "in" instead of fighting the crowds for overpriced restaurant meals! :) Little touches like this make it special!

    1. Aww well that is good that you make the effort to make it special--as I have learned through our first years of marriage, making the extra effort does definitely go a long way :)

  15. We always stay in on Valentine's Day. We used to go out when we were first married, but the meals were always overpriced for Valentine's Day and often the menus were limited. I'd almost rather celebrate another night when our schedule permits...with three teenagers in the house, life is pretty much always hectic! I think its great though that you guys are making an effort to keep date night special...it's definitely important. We strayed off of that path for a while, and now we're back on.

    1. I hear you--it can get very pricing to go out (especially this time of year!). Restaurants can jack up the prices, since they know that people will be going out to celebrate with their significant other. I am glad that you try to make time to date even with 3 teens--that is awesome! And thanks :)
