DIY Toothbrush & Toothpaste Holder and How to Get Whiter Teeth for a Beautiful Smile

Does it kill you to recycle and get rid of perfectly good jars when they become empty?

Well, it does for me! That is why I decided to share this DIY with you on how you can upcycle your leftover jars into things like a toothbrush or toothpaste holder! I constantly find myself wanting to switch up the decor in and around my bathroom area and feeling very "out with the old, in with the new"--and sometimes that can get expensive. But it doesn't have to be expensive at all!

Check out our DIY post below:

Take any ordinary pasta sauce jar (or any sauce jar for that matter), and when you go to the grocery store bring a mason jar top with you--this way, you can see if the jars you are buying will fit with mason jar accessories!

Adam and I enjoyed some yummy Italian food for dinner, and then I promptly cleaned out my jar for our project! So, as soon as you are done emptying the jar, place it into the sink and run it under hot water for a few minutes. Clean out the inside of the jar, and then place it on its side and place it under hot water (so that the water is running right on top of where the jar's label is). Doing so will have the heat deactivate the adhesive used to keep the label stuck to the jar, so this will make it easier to remove the labels.

Then, we gathered some ordinary mason jar toppers (which can be found at a craft supply store or online).

For this particular project, since I wanted the mason jar to serve as my toothbrush holder, I used a netted top.

Next, I grabbed some burlap and lace ribbons! When I measured the burlap ribbon, I wrapped the burlap around the mason jar 2 times and then cut it there; as for the lace ribbon, I only wanted one layered wrap around the mason jar, so I cut it once it made it fully around the mason jar
(i.e. I did not use exact measurements).

I used a standard, crafting hot glue gun to adhere the ribbons to the mason jar.

Tip: When gluing fabric to a mason jar, glue on the sides/edges of the mason jar, so that the front sides of the jar do not show any trace of glue--this will make it look less handmade and more seamless!

Now we have a burlap mason jar! Hooray!

Now, let's add the lace on top and give it that skirted look!

This is what the backside of the mason jar with the adhered ribbon will look like--as you can see, it's evident that it's handmade, but neat enough that it's still very adorable! We can easily achieve this look by taking the time to wrap the ribbons around the mason jar first to make sure that we have the right fit, and then once we are happy with the length we can begin to glue the ribbon and layer it onto the mason jar.

And here is the finished look! Now it's ready to hold some toothbrushes!

And once you are finished with your toothbrush holder, grab another mason jar and upcycle it into a toothpaste holder! You can adorn the jar with chalkboard labels like I did, and then use lace to bring it to the next level!

TADA! What do you think? I think it's shabby chic and adorable!

Just like feeling very "out with the old, in with the new" about my bathroom decor, I have finally moved on from all of my other toothpastes I've been
using and obsessing over buying Colgate® Optic White® Express White while I am out doing my grocery and beauty shopping at Walmart!

Every time I brush my teeth, I can tell that I am getting a deep cleaning; it has 2 times more of the professionally recommended whitening ingredient (vs. Optic White Sparkling Mint TP). And since having good looking teeth is just as important to me as having healthy teeth and gums is, Colgate® Optic White® Express White also gives you whiter teeth in just 3 days, just by brushing!(*)

And if you're still not convinced why I love it so much, there are going to be some awesome in-store demos on 2/28/15 at 550 stores. The in-store demos will be great too because there will be brand ambassadors who will be roaming in and around that aisle giving out $1 off coupons good on Colgate® Optic White® Express White Toothpaste. Be sure to check and see which store holding a demo is closest to you here.

I am loving the results of using Colgate® Optic White® Express White Toothpaste!

Unlike most whitening toothpastes, Colgate® Optic White® Express White Toothpaste contains the professionally recommended ingredient hydrogen peroxide to whiten teeth faster--which is great for me, because when I know I have a party or event coming up soon, I want to know I will be there with my brightest smile! You definitely cannot go wrong with a fast and easy way to whiten teeth!

Why do you think it's important to have a whiter smile?

*For best results, use as directed for 4 weeks.

    1. Thanks Ben! And it is good that you are using a cup at the very least--much better than leaving it on the counter where it can easily get spilled on or get dirtier faster!

    1. That is awesome! I got the netted top at a local craft supply store, but I have seen them in big retail craft stores as well like Michaels, Hobby Lobby, etc.
