Adam and I LOVE chicken wings--no joke. We've been to so many local restaurants in and around Phoenix for wings that we've shelled out a bunch of money! But it occurred to me--why am I going out to eat when I can just make yummy wings at home?
And that is when my research and efforts began.
After weeks of trial cooking with different techniques and ingredients, I have finally found the foolproof way to make gourmet chicken wings at home!
First thing's first: you HAVE to clean your chicken. If you don't already do this, please do it! And if you don't know how, here is an article you can read about how to do it correctly.
Once your chicken is cleaned and ready to go, grab some extra virgin olive oil and evenly coat the wings in some. Now you'll need your rub: for our rub, it's a combination of paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Your rub should be 1/2 paprika, 1/4 garlic powder, 1/8 salt, and 1/8 pepper. Then, like the name suggests, you will powder on top of the chicken on both sides--then you want to use your fingers to massage the rub into the chicken skin as best as you can.
Throw your coated and rubbed chicken wings into a large, stovetop pan and sizzle on medium-high heat. You don't want to actually cook your chicken; you just want to sear it.
Sear on medium-high heat on both sides until it's crispy (see below).
Remember, your chicken isn't fully cooked yet--now we need to bake it.
Throw your chicken into your oven at 350 degrees (F) for 15-18 minutes. Use a meat thermometer to confirm they are done; according to the USDA safe minimum, you need minimum 165 degrees F for safe-to-eat chicken parts.
Tada! All done and OH MY YUM--they are amazing!
Chicken wings are such a staple protein--they are great for so many occasions. I am just excited that pretty soon it will be picnic and BBQ season, so we can enjoy our gourmet chicken wings outside in the fresh air by the pool.
These wings are legendary in our house! Adam said, and I quote, that my wings were "the best hands down" that he has ever had!! So, I'll definitely continue to prepare our wings this way for sure.
Do you remember the best chicken wings you've ever had?
