Queen Creek Olive Mill Blogger Tour

Buying and supporting Arizona local is something that is super important to me! Whenever I can, I choose to support Greater Phoenix small business over big corporations. Building and supporting our community is crucial to keep that Phoenix vibe I fell in love with when I first moved here to go to college--I love anything and everything about Arizona, including how AZ locals choose to help their own when it comes to commerce.

Now, with that said, I am so stoked to tell you all about a recent trip I made with some local foodie influencers and recipe bloggers to the Queen Creek Olive Mill! And special thanks to the Queen Creek Olive Mill for hosting us with a complimentary tour, lunch, and for our awesome swag!

When we arrived, we were greeted by some super friendly employees and escorted to a tent on the grounds. And the grounds in and around the mill are just gorgeous! Everything is vivid and thriving on their grounds. The weather was gorgeous, and I knew we had a lovely day in store for us.

We listened to the wonderful story and history of the Olive Mill, and learned a little bit about olive oil in general. Then, we sampled some of their olive oils including their: Balanced, Fresh Crushed Basil, Chocolate, Roasted Garlic, Meyer Lemon, and Strawberry Balsamic Glaze.

Today I learned that it's pretty common for most people to mix up which olive oils should be used with certain ingredients. We listened to a lot of the differences, but here are some of my key takeaways:

Balanced Olive Oil -- meant for every day cooking (e.g. sautéing, soups, pasta)

Fresh Crushed Basil Olive Oil -- goes with tomatoes (bruschetta), bread dipping, pasta, eggs, etc.

Chocolate Olive Oil -- for baking, mole sauce, drizzled on fresh fruit, etc.

Roasted Garlic Olive Oil -- Brushed onto sandwich or panini, or substitute for butter in grilled cheese.

Meyer Lemon Olive Oil -- fish, chicken, prepping grilled vegetables, or adding acidity to pasta.

Strawberry Balsamic Glaze Olive Oil -- For spinach salads, poured over gelato, additive to marinade, etc.

With all of their awesome olive oil flavors in mind (there are tons more than these, too!) there are so many flavor combination possibilities! These ones I mentioned above were just some of my favorites (and what I'm looking forward to experimenting with in my own cooking!)

After we sampled the olive oils, we did a quick tour inside to see how it's all made. It was a really neat experience to hear them talk about how olive oil is made, and after that I was lucky enough that I could treat my loudly grumbling stomach (why I don't eat breakfasts before leaving the house is beyond me!)

I'm going to be real with all of you--I love Postino's bruschetta so much, and Adam and I just eat it all up and head down there any time we want to order some for ourselves (aka when we're too lazy to make it at home). It's basically our favorite snack. But never in my life had I tasted bruschetta that was so fresh and so incredibly rich as the bruschetta I had at Queen Creek Olive Mill! OH EM GEE! The bruschetta they made us was life-changing.

And I wasn't alone! All of the foodie photographers and bloggers were hovering over the table taking photos of how gorgeous the spread looked! I tried to not practically inhale the food because I was so hungry--it was all just so rich and flavorful. Definitely the highlight of my day!

What's really neat about Queen Creek Olive Mill is that it's not all about olive oil! They also host events for locals, and have the yummiest of food (*coughs* bruschetta *coughs*). After everyone devoured the bruschetta, it was onto the shop! So many goodies are sold at Queen Creek Olive Mill--and I picked up a few things on top of my swag bag and my raffle prize.

I was honestly overwhelmed by how much there was to take in, but I was really glad we had the rest of the afternoon to explore and try more food and olive oils all around the Queen Creek Olive Mill shop. You know me--I cannot resist anything Arizona local. I came home with some major goodies. Check out my haul!

Now THAT is what I call a haul! I came home with so many amazing treats from Queen Creek Olive Mill, and I was so excited and surprised when I won the raffle! I cannot wait to start cooking and baking with my new ingredients--and in the event I use some in one of my recipes, I will be sure to let you all know (in case you want to buy their ingredients online!)

What is your favorite way to cook with (or use) olive oil?
