Have you started planning your costume for Halloween yet? Adam and I made a decision this year that we would make it a yearly tradition to do a Halloween couples costume every year! Last year was the first time we went out together with themed costumes, and honestly I could not believe how fun it was! Couples costumes can be totally underrated, but today I am going to give you five reasons why couples costumes are perfect for Halloween!

Adam and I had a ton of fun preparing our Halloween couples costume this year!

We found it really difficult to not smile and stay serious while we were taking these pictures (hence the goofy picture I shared at the top of our post), but we wanted to try to stay true to our Dia de Los Muertos costumes.

I have also decided that I am going to rock this flower crown on a regular basis! I will not even care if it's Halloween or not--I will seriously wear this crown all season long! I adore making flower crowns, and I have even shared a DIY flower crown tutorial on the blog!

When most people think of couples costumes, they usually think that they are a little obnoxious or maybe that they are overdone. But today, I'm going to defend the idea of having a couples costume, and I will give you my five reasons why couples costumes are actually really perfect for Halloween!

#1. Brainstorming Together is Fun!
Adam and I had fun at home as we looked on our computer for some costume inspiration, and then we had even MORE fun when we went down to our local Halloween supplies store together! We spent a solid hour in the store just goofing off and having a blast, and it felt great when we could plan for something that wasn't stressful and was entirely for our enjoyment!

#2. You Get to Design the Costumes Together
The fact that Adam is more than willing to put temporary tattoos on his face for me is so attractive! One of the things I love about him is that he is willing to try anything I suggest. I was ultimately the one who wanted to put together a Day of the Dead costume, and he was very supportive of my idea; it is so important to support your partner and encourage them to act on their great ideas!

#3. A Couples Costume Brings you Closer Together
When we designed and put our costumes together, we applied the makeup and temporary tattoos on each other. When Adam was applying the tattoos to my face, he would stand there and give me kisses as he held the wet paper towel against my face. What we were doing was hilarious and awkward (seriously, adults usually do not put temporary tattoos on their faces), but it was actually romantic since we were doing something crazy together!

#4. Wearing a Couples Costume Celebrates Your Relationship
Wearing a couples costume together (especially when you go out in public) is a celebration of your relationship! A couples costume makes a statement that says, "Hey, I'm with him/her!" We could be across the room from each other and still be together--our themed couples costume will unite us all night long!

#5. A Couples Costume Can Ignite Passionate Moments
My favorite thing about Halloween is that I can be someone else for a day and live a small fantasy! When I dress or look different than I do every other day, I feel a little bit more perky and mischievous. Dressing up in my Dia de los Muertos costume is new and exciting--and Adam is living in this small fantasy world with me for just this one day! By wearing a couples costume, you and your partner can simultaneously celebrate your relationship and try something new on Halloween.

I am always more inclined to want to try something new when I am living in the moment--on Halloween, Adam and I will be celebrating our relationship by wearing our Day of the Dead couples costumes. Since we have decided to make a couples costume a yearly tradition, we can get really passionate about what we're doing and start to plan them out even earlier next year!

Creating passionate moments to remember is crucial to having a marriage that lasts! Another way to ignite some passion in your marriage this Halloween is to bring home K-Y® Yours+Mine® Couples Lubricants®. You can find the K-Y® Yours+Mine® Couples Lubricants® at Walmart in the feminine hygiene aisle. I used this $2 off one K-Y® product coupon while shopping at Walmart!

  7. We like to do couples costumes whenever possible, too. One year we were Dana/Zuul and Luis from Ghostbusters, another year we were an Angry Bird and King Pig, and this year we're doing Wreck-It-Ralph and Vanellope von Schweetz. It's just more fun to do coordinating costumes than not!

I really do love the temp tattoos y'all used for the DOTD look. They are fabulous!

  8. I love this idea! This look is simple because of the temporary tattoos, but then you can get creative with the additional makeup. #client
