Before we hit the road in our Lexus NX300h, I thought of a fun way to fit a date into our travel time down to Tucson--so I packed a picnic basket with some lunch and some snacks, and told Adam I had a surprise for him on our way out of town. Thank you to Lexus for inspiring me to share this date night idea today!
Some of the goodies I packed into our picnic basket included: cheese and crackers, salad for two, lemonades, and prosciutto wrapped cheese. As long as it doesn't require re-heating, you can essentially pack anything you like into your on-the-go picnic! I wouldn't recommend anything with sauces, like pasta, since this could be pretty messy and the last thing you want to do is get spaghetti sauce all over the back of your Lexus!
Adam and I found a nice scenic spot on our way down to Tucson, and we parked so we could enjoy our little impromptu date. Once we parked, we put the seats all the way down with the push of a button and then popped the trunk. Our Lexus had generous cargo room, so it was really easy for us to make room for our picnic set up and then sit in the back to enjoy our food.
While we were eating, we kept the car on and listened to some sports satellite radio and talked about the upcoming football game we'd been looking forward to; normally, I'd feel guilty leaving the car on for a little while since it wastes so much gas, but luckily the Lexus NX300h is a hybrid SUV.
Once we were done enjoying our picnic snacks, we cleaned up our trash and stored everything away in the back of our SUV. On the drive down to Tucson, we just relaxed and talked about all of the exciting plans we had the for the weekend. It was such a smooth and enjoyable ride, and it made our road trip feel a little bit less like a road trip (and more like just hanging out with my husband!)
Love the idea of a backseat picnic! Perfect for a fun date or family night!
ReplyDeleteI love picnics for date night. It looks like you had a nice time
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun idea! This would be great when the weather is nice and you want to get out of the house!
ReplyDeleteMost definitely! Or you could do a spin on it with the cold weather--you could serve hot cocoa and muffins out of the back of your car! ;-)
DeleteThis is so cute! What a wonderful idea!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun idea! You look adorable by the way! I will have to do this with y husband. The weather has been perfect for this type of date.
ReplyDeleteCute idea! I love that Lexus!! We love to go on date nights all the time!!!
ReplyDeletethis is seriously such a cute and sweet idea! Will have to remember this one!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fun outing! I love to picnic and you found a spot with amazing views!
ReplyDeleteYes, Arizona is gorgeous! The ride between Phoenix and Tucson has a lot of great spots to stop at, too!
DeleteA picnic in the desert how romantic is that I love this idea!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous looking picnic! I cant wait till the weather warms back up so I can do this too!
ReplyDeleteIt's been ages since I had a picnic. What a lovely date night idea
ReplyDeleteWe frequently pack an easy-to-eat meal for road trips, though I admit we usually eat them while still on the road rather than stop and have a picnic (saving time being one of the benefits). It's been a while since we've gone on an honest-to-goodness picnic, but we dine al fresco a few times a year.
ReplyDeleteTotally understandable! Adam gets car sick easily, so eating while driving isn't an option for us.
DeleteThis looks like a fun idea! I would love to do this, but I'm not sure my husband would be on board.
ReplyDeleteWhy wouldn't he be on board? Does your husband not like food?! lol
DeleteOh how fun! I can't remember the last time we went on a picnic!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of packing a picnic and getting some fresh air for a date! we sometimes have a picnic for dinner in our yard with our daughter. not exactly a romantic date, but she loves it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun idea! Before we had the kids I used to do picnic lunches with my husband at the tractor. With the kids mostly in school now I hope to get to do that again this Spring during planting.
ReplyDeleteI love this idea! I cannot remember the last time that I had a picnic…um…maybe I was a kid. My sweetie and I do eat outside sometimes (when the weather is nice), but usually under a pavilion at this small lake area close to home.
ReplyDeleteLook at that beautiful car and look at that yummy food! Your photo says it all. Fun time and pretty day!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute and romantic idea for a date night! Love picnics!
ReplyDeleteAwww... What a cute idea! We could totally do this with our CRV OR our subaru! :-)
ReplyDeleteOmg such a cute idea!!! I really should do this with hubby once the weather gets nice again!
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh how incredibly romantic and cute!! I love this idea and definitely need to try too!
