Our Mini Family: 5 Reasons Every Couple Needs a Wedding Book

5 Reasons Every Couple Needs a Wedding Book

While having your wedding photos on social media is great, every couple should have a printed photo album or book filled with images from their special day. Our post today, brought to you by Shutterfly, lists the ways that having a wedding book can help your marriage as well as how it can help you as an individual.

Adam is and always has been a romantic at heart, but I cannot say the same for myself.

Before Adam and I were together, my friends would have told you I was cynical and unsure of ever finding real love. In fact, I even vowed to a few people that I would never get married! But sure enough, the right man got a hold of me and transformed me into my best self and it wasn't until I had Adam in my life that I could find joy in things like dating, planning for my future, and even celebrating holidays (including Valentine's Day).

With Valentine's Day this week, I've been craving romance a little bit more than normal. I would like to say that I am an incurable romantic, but that would not be true. Our weekly date night has played a large part in helping me feel and act more affectionate, as well as Adam's loving and warm personality. But with every hug, kiss, and act of devotion, I have grown more and more positive and softhearted. This week is always special for us, and as much as people complain that it's a "greeting card holiday," I owe much of my personal growth and ability to show compassion to days like Valentine's Day and to my husband and his constant affection.

When our friends at Shutterfly invited us to use their Make My Book Service to create a photo book of our own I was so elated because I knew exactly what I wanted to do: create a wedding book. Today, I'm sharing five reasons why married couples deserve and should have a printed, photo book they can hold in their hand (and not just pictures to look at online). Since investing in our book, we have discovered the ways that it has and will help us as individuals and as a couple.

The Shutterfly Make My Book service formats the book for me, and allows me to make changes so the book is completely personalized without the hassle of having to be super creative on my own! With the Shutterfly Make My Book service, I can save time! If I wanted to design something like this entirely by myself, it would have taken hours (maybe days) to come up with everything. But the Shutterfly Make My Book service was there, and from the time I opened the site until I went to checkout to order my book it had only been about 30 minutes! If you're thinking about using the  Shutterfly Make My Book service, keep in mind there is an additional $9.99 design fee on top of the cost of your actual book but in my opinion the service pays for itself in saved time and hassle for me!

Reasons Every Couple Needs a Wedding Book

#1. CDs, DVDs, and USBs Won't Last Forever

20 years ago, home computers were just becoming popular and for those who had information to store and save on their computer they used floppy disks. Let me ask you something--can you remember the last time you saw a floppy disk?

Technology changes faster than you anticipate. Make sure you get a copy of your wedding pictures in the form of something physical--and not just stored on your hard drive somewhere. Electronics aren't fail-proof all the time, and if you can believe it, future generations won't be using the same technology as us. One thing that hasn't changed over the last few generations is the relevance of a  wedding album! Do yourself a favor and get your hands on one before it becomes almost impossible/expensive to convert your wedding CD when it becomes outdated.

#2. Your Wedding Day was a Fairy Tale--Now Enjoy the Storybook

Remember when you were a little girl flipping through the pages of one of your favorite stories, and how it brought you so much joy and whimsy?

You can create a storybook of your own from your very own special kind of fairy tale--if you have pictures from your wedding day put into a hardcover book, it can help make you feel the magic you felt when you used to sit and flip page after page admiring beautiful pictures and being transported to a different time. Every little girl who has ever dreamt of what it's like to be a bride can enjoy her wedding book in this way.

#3. It Serves as a Conversation Piece & Something to Share with Others

When you invite your guests into your home--whether they are your friends, family, or co-workers--having a wedding album out on display on a coffee table or easily within reach can serve as a great way to exchange stories. We have had a wonderful time going back and enjoying photos from our special day with our family and friends, and know that it will be a great thing to have around when we're inviting newer friends into our home to help them get to know us a little bit better!

#4. Your Memories are Worth It

Having a wedding book put together can be expensive for some people, but know that it is an investment not just for you and your spouse but also for your family and future generations to come.

#5. You'll Want it for the Bad Days

To put it simply, having a wedding book around will serve as a reminder on the tough days. Not every day is perfect, and moments when you are feeling run down or like you need another reminder to be thankful you can pick up your wedding book and cherish the moments from the happiest day of your life.

  1. I think a couple book is pretty much mandatory, at least in our family. Pretty much anyone who got married got this made. I think it's a lovely way to commemorate the special day!

    1. Definitely! Even for couples that don't have a ceremony--everyone should have a memory book with their most treasured pics together!

  2. I DEFINITELY want a photo book! People sometimes don't even do baby books because of social media and that's sad to me! I LOVE shutterfly and these photos are beautiful!!

    1. Shutterfly is fabulous! And I agree--I can't imagine why people don't print their photos of their babies. I wish my mom had more pics of me when I was little, and I feel like every parent should preserve those memories FOR their children after they are grown up.

  3. Yes to all these! It's too easy to just rely on electronic copies of photos. It's so important to print them out! We keep our Shutterfly books out so our kids can flip through them and ask us questions about our travels and our wedding!

  5. I love this idea. I've been married for so long that sadly all my photos are on film. I tried the whole scrapbook thing but I kinda suck at creativity and making it pretty.

    1. Would a store be able to convert your film to like a high res jpeg? I have heard of some ways they can convert older technology into newer--may be worth looking into!

  8. I love your wedding album; the photos are so pretty! My husband and I only had a small wedding and didn't get to hire an official photographer so we don't have a wedding album. But it's okay, we have photos taken by us in our laptop so it's still all good. :)

  9. I would love to have a wedding book but sadly our little ceremony was in a living room and no photos were taken oddly enough. I hope when we do a vow renewal we can do the whole dress up and gown thing! - Jeanine
