Our Mini Family: Packing Tips for Men

Packing Tips for Men

Over the years, I've watched my husband's travel habits change and mature.

When we first started traveling together when we were in college and in a long-distance relationship, he'd hop on a plane and fly to see me on school break every few months and he'd show up at my doorstep with a gym bag filled with t-shirts and gym shorts rolled up in a giant ball. Of course, I always offered to hang his clothes up in my closet for the duration of his stay and help him iron his clothes. But with time and a handful of eye rolls headed his way, he learned to take the time to pack his clothing and preserve them for his trip to visit me.

Since we started dating nearly 10 years ago, I've watched my husband become more mature in many aspects of his life (much including his sense of style and his ambition to take good care of his clothing). After sitting down with him and asking him what he's learned from his 20s when it comes to traveling and packing for a trip, he shared some of his go-to packing tips.

Packing Tips for Men

Use zip-top bags when storing liquids or stuff that can spill.

Place delicate items in the middle of your suitcase or bag.

Cover your shoes with grocery bags to avoid getting dirt all over your clothing.

Buy a clear, cheap pencil case and place any electronic cords or cables inside.

Store an unscented dryer sheet in your bag to keep your clothes fresh while traveling.

Unless you know how to properly "double flat roll," don't bother trying to roll your clothes into your suitcase as it can take up too much space if it's not done correctly.

Always carry 1.5x more pairs of underwear and socks than you need. You're likely to forget them or somehow lose them while traveling.

Black pants and jeans are your best friend--they go with almost everything.

Use a belt to keep collared shirts from creasing or wrinkling. Wrap a belt into a small circle, and place it in the collar of your shirt.

If you need to pack a suit coat or sports coat, wear it. Don't pack it--if you're flying, you may even discover you'll get upgraded if you look the part.

Invest in a cloth travel case to store loose items such as deodorant, a comb, a razor, etc.

Pack a high-quality razor (i.e.
The Perfecter: Beard Boss Stubble and Detail Kit) along with your preferred shaving necessities. Whether it's a trip for business or pleasure, you're going to want to look your best.

When you look good (or even presentable) you're treated better--especially if you're traveling by plane. I cannot tell you how many times my husband has gotten compliments on his beard after he's cleaned it up and we've gotten some sort of upgrade or special treatment. Why risk looking scruffy when you can get an upgrade to business class when you've got a handsome and cleaned up beard?

The Perfecter: Beard Boss Stubble and Detail Kit is one of Adam's favorite grooming products when it comes to his beard maintenance. Its foil shaver is great for cleaning up along his neck and jawline, which is what needs the most tending to while we're traveling. Another bonus is that it has a 5 hours lithium battery life, so he usually does not even need to charge it when he's taking it with us on vacation or on a press trip.

The Perfecter: Beard Boss Stubble and Detail Kit is available at Walmart and on Walmart.com!

  11. My husband travels for work and thankfully he doesn't have to wear suits. That makes it so much harder to pack. He has learned to carry as lightly as possible. Occasionally, he has had to run out and buy a shirt or something due to staying an extra day.
