Weekend barbecues and brunch by the pool have become a tradition since we moved to Arizona.

This week, with the holiday coming up, we are inviting our friends to come over for an all-American themed barbecue and enjoying an assortment of different red, white, and blue treats! In addition to these patriotic snacks and desserts, I'm also serving up these fun spiral hot dogs on sticks--they are so fun to make and always a crowd-pleaser! Keep reading below to see just how easy these hot dogs are to make and you can save this recipe tutorial for your next summer barbecue or party!

Spiral Hot Dog on a Stick
*yields 14 spiral hot dogs on a stick

Ingredients:
  • 7 Hebrew National® Beef Franks
  • Bread roll dough (kosher)
  • 4 tablespoons of Hunt’s® Ketchup
  • 4 tablespoons of Gulden’s Mustard
Directions:
  1. Cut the beef franks in half using a knife or kitchen scissors.
  2. Carefully slide the hot dog half onto a skewer.
  3. Using a knife, slice the beef franks down the side in a spiral cut from the top to the bottom.
  4. Spread the beef frank along the skewer so there are about 1-1.5 inches of space in-between each part of the hot dog franks.
  5. Repeat this process for all of the beef hot dogs until you have a number of skewers that you want for your cookout.
  6. Grill the hot dogs until they are fully cooked, and then set aside to cool. Alternatively, you can opt to cook the beef franks in the oven at the same time while the dough bakes, but it is up to your discretion (we prefer grilled dogs, that is, if it isn't blistering hot outside!)
  7. Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees (F).
  8. Using bread roll dough, tightly wrap a string of dough around the skewer in the parts in-between where the beef hot dog is cooked. Remove any excess dough by ripping it or tieing it around the bottom of the beef hot dog.
  9. Repeat this process for all of the skewers.
  10. Bake the hot dogs with the dough in the oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  11. Remove them from the oven, and then drizzle them with ketchup and mustard. Serve and enjoy!
