Our Mini Family: Mixed Berry Sheep Milk Yogurt Smoothie

Mixed Berry Sheep Milk Yogurt Smoothie

Stay healthy and feel good while on-the-go with this protein-packed, sheep milk yogurt and mixed berry smoothie recipe inspired by my sponsored partnership with Bellwether Farms!

This week has felt like an absolute poopstorm! I mean, let's take a second and summarize what's gone on in the last 7 days or so and how crazy my life has felt (so much so, I only find myself having time to whip up smoothies instead of legitimately well-thought out, prepared and fully-cooked meals).

First, I started off my week by hearing great news about my weight loss journey (always amazing to get reassurance) and had a great doctor's appointment with all good news. The next day, chaos erupts.

Adam and I were sitting on the couch eating cereal and binge-watching Dexter on Netflix, and suddenly, I look down at my hand and my stomach drops when it hits me: my diamond wedding ring is GONE! I try to take a few seconds to try to calm down, but before I realize what's happening I'm yelling and crying at Adam that my wedding ring is gone and I have no idea where it is! Within minutes our entire apartment is turned upside down and inside out.

Adam starts tossing couch pillows, moving furniture, asking me questions to help me recount my day when all I can think about is how much of a failure I feel like so I cannot focus on his questions. He is obviously upset with me, but he tries his best to not express his anger at me while I mindlessly just rummage through everything I can get my hands on to desperately try to find my ring. We both go to bed completely silent--the first time I can recall us doing that since our really difficult days back in Massachusetts right after we first moved in together--and I drifted into a restless sleep after spending hours crying.

The next morning, we had an appointment with our leasing office for our apartment here in Mesa. We find out that our rent is being bumped up nearly $200 more a month in the same unit we are in (which is unrenovated and next to the loudest neighbors on the planet). We both try our best to not freak out and practically bolt out of the office and back to our apartment so the two of us could speak freely without our old leasing manager able to hear us. Within minutes we decide we're essentially forced out of our living situation, and we begin the hunt for a new place. Having spent 5 years at this same apartment complex, I completely forgot how hard it can be and how stressful it can feel to search for, tour, and apply for a new apartment to live at.

Days later, I find a condo I fall in love with but the price seems too good to be true. After having done a tour at a number of other spots neither of us loved, we agreed to check out this condo and reminded ourselves to keep an open mind. Turns out, the condo was meant to be after all! We loved the space, thought it was a quiet neighborhood while we were there, and enjoyed how easy it was to work with our new prospective landlord. After a night at the bar and thinking things over, we happily agree to move into this condo and start the new chapter of our lives!

After 7 days worth of an emotional roller-coaster-like scenario, my eating habits have been poor and I have been trying to force myself to eat. In the past, when I have had a lot of ups and downs going on all at once, my energy is all kinds of crazy and I find myself not eating all day and then end up feeling starved at night. Knowing this is how my body reacts to change, I made an effort to stock up on easy-to-eat foods I could snack on without having to spend a lot of time preparing. I have had my fair share of peanuts, power bars, fruit, and smoothies this week and today I am sharing a recipe I have made a few times this week that helped me get through the worries and the wins of this past week!

Mixed Berry Sheep Milk Yogurt Smoothie

Ingredients:
  • 6 ounces of Plain, Bellwether Farms Sheep Milk Yogurt (i.e. 1 single serving container)
  • 1 cup of ice cubes
  • 1/4 cup of blueberries
  • 1/4 cup of blackberries
  • 1/2 cup of strawberries
Directions:
  1. In a blender or smoothie bullet/mixer, start by filling it with strawberries.
  2. Then, add in the blueberries and blackberries.
  3. Pour in the yogurt on top.
  4. Place the ice cubes at the end, and mix the ingredients entirely until they are fully blended (you may add more ice until you get the texture you desire).
  5. Serve immediately and enjoy!

If you have never tried sheep's milk yogurt, I definitely recommend looking out for Bellwether Farms next time you are out shopping at a local/organic-friendly store such as Whole Foods! The taste is a bit different from traditional yogurt, and I like how it pairs well with berries and it gives a nice tart taste (nothing too sweet!)

They have a variety of flavors like vanilla and strawberry, and you can also pick up their plain flavor which I believe is the ideal flavor for the most versatility (if you like to make smoothies or parfaits, I think plain would be great for you). What I like about the Bellwether Farms sheep milk plain yogurt is that it has 10 grams of protein in it, so it helps keep me feeling full longer.

Bellwether Farms is partnering with the Whole Kids Foundation during the month of September and donating $1 of every cup of yogurt sold to support schools and inspire families to improve children’s nutrition and wellness.
