Our Mini Family: Prep for Holiday Shopping with these 5 Tips

Prep for Holiday Shopping with these 5 Tips

Holiday shopping is a nuisance that returns every year, and for many of us, it is especially difficult to finish our shopping list before the holidays actually start to roll around. The last thing I want to do is sit down and enjoy a turkey dinner with our friends, and then abruptly leave the dinner table so I do not miss out on a doorbuster sale.

The holidays should be enjoyed with friends and loved ones, not out shopping all hours of the night and waiting in mile-long cashier lines with hundreds of other folks who spent the last few weeks procrastinating when it comes to their presents shopping for their friends, co-workers, and loved ones. I am a firm believer that the holidays should be spent surrounded by those who matter to you most, and for me, that does not include strangers at a department store and the workers who are forced to work on said holiday since the store is kept open for last-minute shoppers.

In order to avoid the last-minute holiday shopping fiasco that so many of us run into every year, I opt to prepare for my holiday shopping around Halloween and begin shopping as early as the first week of November. Sure, there are some good sales around Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve, but wouldn't you rather enjoy those days at home with your family and friends where it's quiet and comfortable? Save yourself the hassle of stressful holiday shopping and get your list finished before everyone else with these tips and tricks I have found most helpful over the years!

Prep for Holiday Shopping with these 5 Tips

#1 Make a List (and Check it Twice)

Shopping for the holidays can feel overwhelming if you've got a long list to go through. You don't want to forget anyone, but you also don't want to buy more than you have to (the holidays are already expensive enough as is!) So the best thing you can do before you even start shopping is set yourself up for success by writing a list of who you need to shop for, along with what you want/need to buy for them for the holidays. Physically writing everything you need to buy down will give you an idea of what your budget will look like, as well as what kinds of stores you need to shop at in person when the sales roll around or what you can easily buy online and have shipped to your door.

#2 Give Yourself a Deadline

If you don't want to have to drag yourself away from the dinner table on Thanksgiving Day to take advantage of big sales at department stores, make sure to give yourself a deadline so you can be completely done shopping and have time to truly relax and enjoy the holidays as they were meant to be enjoyed with family and at home!

#3 Fill your Purse with Snacks and Drinks

You know the phrase, "shop til you drop?" Well, we don't want you dropping because you've spent an entire morning, day, and evening crossing items off of your holiday shopping list and not giving you any time to stop and stay hydrated and keep snacks with you to keep your energy up while shopping for hours! When I know I have a long day of shopping ahead of me, I actually pack a thermal lunchbox to keep in the car and keep it stocked with a few bottles of cold water and other drinks like Honest Tea®, as well as fruit and other snacks like Lorissa’s Kitchen Korean Barbeque Beef!

Honest Tea® is just a tad sweet, so it keeps me going when I am taking breaks between shopping trips hopping from store to store. Snacks like Lorissa’s Kitchen Korean Barbeque Beef is always a good choice for my all day shopping adventures, since I know it's better for you and features a clean label and is made with 100% grass-fed beef and responsibly raised pork, made with no preservatives, growth hormones, MSG, or nitrites and it's gluten-free.

#4 Create a Shopping Map

Think about which stores you need to drive to and their physical location, and create either a map or a list of which stores you need to visit and what order they go in. Think about factors such as what time does a store open, if you're visiting for a particular sale and what time the sale starts, what time the store closes, etc. There's nothing more frustrating about holiday shopping that having to drive all around town and spend so much time on the road getting from point A to point B, so I have found that creating a map and an order of which stores I need to go to in the most logical order has helped keep my stress down and my shopping momentum going.

#5 Stay Focused and Get it Done!

I love to window shop as much as the next person, but when it comes to holiday shopping, window shopping is a no-go.  I have found that it is most helpful to imagine you have tunnel vision (especially when I am making a stop along the way at a store that I prefer to shop at on a regular basis). Keep the shopping list in your hand, and look down at it if you need to remember what you are in the store to buy. Staying focused will not only help you save time and allow you the chance to finish your holiday shopping in a more time-efficient way, but it will also help you save money since you won't be buying anything that you do not need from your shopping list!

Honest Tea and Lorissa's Kitchen™ Premium Protein Snacks is the perfect snack combination for your holiday shopping day! Be sure to take advantage of this Ibotta offer below for a limited time only:

Organic Honey Green Tea is my favorite Honest Tea flavor, but there are so many to choose from! You can find them at Walmart either near the coolers at the front of the store near the checkout, or in the drink aisle in the store. While you're shopping at Walmart, you can also stock up on your favorite Lorissa's Kitchen™ Premium Protein Snacks--two of my favorites are the Lorissa’s Kitchen Korean Barbeque Beef and the Lorissa's Kitchen Szechuan Peppercorn Beef! These snacks are so flavorful and they are low in carbs, low in fat, and high in protein (so I know they will keep me feeling fueled and ready to tackle my next store along the way to finish my holiday shopping list, and that they will help me feel better when I snack!)

  8. I am a procrastinator when it comes to shopping. Luckily, I mainly get gift cards because my family lives out of state and that's what they love to receive.
