How to Host a Game Day Pizza Party

This post is sponsored by RAGÚ® Pizza Sauce, but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

The stakes are high and game day has us craving comfort food like cheesy pepperoni braids and flatbread pizza! Today, I'm sharing an easy and delicious pizza inspired party tutorial for game day sponsored by RAGÚ®!

The most important game day of the year is only a few weeks away--how are you going to celebrate?

We figured, what better way to cheer on your team and enjoy some delicious food than by celebrating with everyone's favorite comfort food: pizza! But instead of just ordering pizza delivery, surprise your game day squad with a few tasty, homemade pizza-inspired appetizers to enjoy alongside a slice of pie!

Today, I am sharing a few tutorials and ideas to get you started on hosting your very own game day pizza party! We enjoyed a few games with friends this season and had some delicious flatbread and pizza braid all made with delicious pizza sauce, cheese, and our favorite seasonings!

DIY Football Field End Zone Tablescape with Field Goal Post

For this easy, quick tutorial you will need tape, 9 yellow balloons, a green tablecloth, and white streamer.

First, I blew up the balloons only about 1/3 of the way full so they are small around round. Then, I tied them off with a knot to keep the air inside. I placed a green tablecloth down on our party table, and then pushed the table against the wall.

Using some tape, I attached the balloons to the wall in the shape of a football field goal post (this shape resembles the letter "U" combined with the letter "I").

Finally, I trimmed a few pieces of white streamer just a bit longer than the width of the table and placed them horizontally across the table about the same distance apart.

Pepperoni Pizza Braid

Ingredients:
  • 1 puff pastry sheet, thawed
  • 1/3 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/3 cup oRAGÚ® Homemade Style Pizza Sauce
  • 1/4 cup of pepperoni slices
  • 1 teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil
  • A pinch of ground black pepper
  • A pinch of garlic powder
Directions:
  1. Pre-heat the oven to 400 degrees (F).
  2. Gently roll out a puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface.
  3. Spread RAGÚ® Homemade Style Pizza Sauce with the backside of a spoon all across the middle of the pastry sheet.
  4. Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese over the top of the sauce followed by the pepperoni slices.
  5. Using a sharp knife or cooking scissors, cut even strips on the left and right (pictured below).
  6. Fold the strips into the middle, alternating between the left and right side and creating a crisscross pattern with the puff pastry until all of the pieces are folded into a braid.
  7. Brush the olive oil on the top of the pastry, and sprinkle it with ground black pepper and garlic powder.
  8. Bake the pizza braid in the oven at 400 degrees (F) for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Spiced Pepperoni Mozzarella Flatbread Pizza

Flatbread pizza is a breeze with a good pair of cooking scissors and some patience!

Just like traditional pizza or flatbread, I used: pizza dough, shredded mozzarella cheese, a few larger pieces of mozzarella, RAGÚ® Homemade Style Pizza Sauce, and some spiced pepperoni I found at Walmart!

Prepare your flatbread like a normal pizza, and bake it in the oven at 425 degrees (F) for 10-12 minutes or until the edges have browned and the cheese has melted. Enjoy it with a side of ranch and it's perfect for game day!

Garlic Toast with Pizza Dipping Sauce

Garlic toast is a delicious appetizer for any occasion, but you can elevate it to your pizza party standards taking it just one step beyond traditionally baked garlic toast.

Instead of enjoying it as is, dip it in your favorite sauces once it's baked (we enjoy dipping our toast in RAGÚ® Homemade Style Pizza Sauce and a homemade butter garlic sauce!)

Other Party Must-Haves

Stop by your local Walmart to pick up some RAGÚ® Homemade Style Pizza Sauce, all of the ingredients you need for these recipe ideas, party decoration supplies, salad, and some drinks before the party, so you have enough to feed all your friends along with these homemade party appetizer ideas!

Either make your own flatbread pizzas for a small group or have pizzas delivered to the party to enjoy alongside your homemade pizza-inspired appetizers (like the pepperoni pizza braid and flatbread pizza made with RAGÚ® Homemade Style Pizza Sauce!)

Before any game day, I always stock up on plenty of cheese and sauces like RAGÚ® Homemade Style Pizza Sauce and RAGÚ® Pizza Quick Traditional Sauce. There are so many ways to enjoy game day without the hassle of having to make pizza sauce from scratch so you can get back to enjoying your pre-game festivities before the football game starts!
