How I'm Preparing My Skin for My Thirties

Today, I'm sharing all 7 steps I take to get my skin ready to embrace turning 30 at the end of this year! This skin care routine post is inspired by my recent sponsorship with one of my favorite skincare companies, Bioré!

These last couple of weeks, it has finally started to feel like I'm going to be leaving my twenties at the end of the year.

In December, I will be closing out this decade and moving onto the start of my thirties. I know, it's just a number. But this week, I had a moment where I stopped in my tracks and it totally caught me off guard.

I was scrolling through Instagram on my phone when I stumbled upon my sister-in-law's post from this week and it was an album of pictures of my little niece getting her first haircut. I stopped at the post, swooned over these perfect pictures of my adorable little niece, and then that's when it hit me. She's not a baby anymore. And yet, I feel like she was just born.

Time is passing more quickly than I would like to, and seeing my baby niece (who's not a baby anymore) blossom into a toddler who looks more and more like a little person and less like an infant really hit me that time is only going to pass us by more and more quickly as I get older!

Seeing my niece look so grown up only made me feel that much older myself. I have known all along that my twenties would inevitably come to an end, but nothing has made me feel older lately than seeing how quickly the children in my life are growing up (also realized my first baby cousin I remember holding in my arms, Madison, is going to be 22 next month....I mean, what the heck?!)

Time can be unforgiving and remind all of us that we are aging, sure, but it also a reminder that we have the ability to better ourselves and take time for self-care! One of my goals for the second half of my twenties has been to learn about my skin and develop good skin care habits. Over these last couple of years, I've made appointments with dermatologists and estheticians to learn more about my skin and sort out what I should be focusing on improving to not only prevent signs of aging but also to ensure that I can do everything in my power to put my twenty-something-skin into a time capsule bottle and bring this youth, glow, and elasticity of my skin with me into my thirties and beyond! Taking actionable steps toward bettering my skin has meant making and sticking to a successful anti-aging skincare routine.

Today, I'm sharing what I have been doing to prepare my skin for my thirties!

I have a few essential steps I take on a regular basis to help prevent aging and maintain clear, firm, and bright skin. Here are the steps I am taking to prepare my skin for my thirties:

Step 1: Cleanser

I have tried all kinds of cleansers and I have had success with many of them. I use them at least two times a day, and sometimes even more if I am working out or it's really hot outside and I am sweating excessively. I always wash my face with cleanser and then dry it with a clean, soft face towel before continuing with my skincare routine.

Step 2: Toner/Beauty Water

Beauty water, otherwise referred to as toner, is just as essential to my skincare routine as my moisturizer. If I am planning on doing anything other than washing my face, I always follow up with a toner of some sort to ensure that I am preparing my skin so that it's ready for the next treatment step (which could be anything from regularly exfoliating to sitting down and doing a treatment mask that lasts 10-15 minutes).

Step 3: Exfoliant

I exfoliate different parts of my face at different frequencies.

For instance, I like to exfoliate my lips a minimum of once a week to keep flaky, dry and cracked lips at bay and follow with a lip treatment. I also exfoliate my face and my neck one to two times of the week, depending on what I've been doing and what I've been putting my skin through. For weeks when I'm working a lot or when I'm sweating a lot, I make sure to pump up my cleanser and exfoliant and follow up with a moisturizer.

Step 4: Strip and Mask

As with exfoliating, I have different kinds of masks and strips I use at different times and different frequencies depending on my activity. Some weeks, in the summertime, I find myself using a Bioré Deep Pore Charcoal Cleansing Pore Strips two times a week to really draw out all of the impurities in my pores around my nose where most of my blackheads form (this is definitely a problem for me in the warmer months of the year when I am sweating more and can't keep up with washing my face enough).

For masks, I use a variety of different masks but make sure to be strategic about which ones I use and when. I aim to use a cleansing mask, like the Bioré One Minute Self Heating Maskon a different day than I would use a hydrating mask since they take a bit longer since there is a waiting period involved with them.

Using a mask at the right time and in the right order of a skincare routine really elevates what I'm working on when it comes to my skincare goals. I always make sure to use cleanser and toner before any mask or strip, so that I can have a clean and polished face that's ready to absorb nutrients or pull out impurities (and after any stripping mask, I always follow up with cleanser and beauty water to wash away any excess impurities left on the surface of my skin).

Step 5: Serum/Oil

The most perplexing thing I learned about skincare was how essential serums and oils are when it comes to anti-aging and keeping the skin moisturized. It seemed peculiar to me to add oils to my face, because we usually don't want oily skin, but I learned (in the simplest explanation) that our skin produces excess oil when it's not getting a proper amount of oil. So basically, if you are dealing with oily skin, you need to incorporate a serum or oil into your skincare routine!

I have a variety of different serums and oils, but all of them are water-based and have a good amount of collagen and True-C complex in them.

Step 6: Eye Cream

Right after I carefully and gently dap serum or oil all over my face, I make sure to dab a little bit right below the bags under my eyes. I allow it to dry, and then I gently apply eye cream all in the under eye area, on the outsides of my eyes, and into my crease.

Step 7: Moisturizer

I prefer to use a cream moisturizer with SPF during the day, and then I opt for a water-based moisturizer at night before bed.

Both the Bioré Deep Pore Charcoal Cleansing Pore Strips and the Bioré One Minute Self Heating Mask have become an essential part of my regular skincare routine! They are both effective in achieving different skincare steps and especially when they are used together with cleanser, toner, exfoliants, oils, serums, creams, and moisturizer.

I've been using Bioré Deep Pore Charcoal Cleansing Pore Strips basically since I was in middle school, and they have always been my go-to when it comes to addressing the blackheads that form on and around my nose. They work like a magnet to pull out grime and oil, which helps to prevent blackheads from ever happening (which is why I routinely use them consistently, so I can try to minimize the blackheads I get right from the start!)

As for the Bioré One Minute Self Heating Mask, this is a newer addition to my beauty routine. I love that it warms up and gets the job done in just one minute (which is very quick compared to my other masks I use along with it). It helps cleanse my skin and pull away dirt very quickly, and it leaves my skin feeling soft and supple after I've wiped it away!

What does your skin care routine look like? Did you grow up using Bioré Deep Pore Charcoal Cleansing Pore Strips, too?
