Seizing the Day and Kicking off Our Summer Routine

This post is sponsored by Chameleon Cold-Brew Concentrate but the content and opinions expressed here are my own. May is drawing to a close, and in a few days, June will be here and nearly halfway through the year.

During the summer, that is often our busiest time of the year for more than a few reasons. Adam and I tend to have the most going on with work throughout the months of summer break--well, at least it is a break for everyone else!

The key to our successes this summer lies in establishing our summer routine, which is why today we will be sharing what we'll be doing each morning while enjoying a cup of cold brew coffee to seize the day and share how our productive work days always start with a solid morning routine (and if you scroll to the bottom of the post you can read more about what our in-depth summer plans are and see why I've got so many boxes that need to be shipped).

Our Summer Routine Game Plan

#1 Enjoy a cup of coffee together

Every morning, Adam and I start our day with a cup of coffee together. In the summertime, we always prefer to drink something cool so we have been enjoying Chameleon Cold-Brew Black Concentrate that we got from our local Fry's. It's so nice to enjoy during the work week because it's refreshing and easy to prepare!

#2 Check emails

I have tried sitting down and properly checking and responding to emails before I have had my first cup of coffee and it hardly ever benefits me. After I have had a cup of Chameleon Cold-Brew Black Concentrate, I sit down with my tablet or phone and get my emails squared away.

#3 Breakfast and Meal Planning

Breakfast in the summer is usually the only meal when I like to cook something in the oven since it's still relatively cool in the house, so I will take some time a few times a week to do some meal planning and meal prep and end up cooking a few meals for that week. Otherwise, I find myself eating something quick like wheat cereal and some fruit.

#4 Go on a Walk

In the summertime in Phoenix, it is usually already close to getting 90 degrees around this time of day. This is the ideal time of day while the sun is out to go for a nice long walk, and sometimes I even bring my Poshmark sales with me and walk all the way out to the Post Office to drop them off so I can ship my sales out.

#5 Playtime with Bowie

After I like to go for a walk in the morning before the temperatures become unbearably hot, I like to relax in the air conditioning and play for a little while with Bowie before he takes his morning nap.

#6 Work

Any photos that I need to take for the blog, my social media channels, or my Poshmark closet usually happens in the morning. I have really great sunlight to work with on our patio in the late morning, so any photography that I need to get done for work will happen around this time.

#7 Lunch

Even if it's just for a few minutes and something fast, I like to put a halt on work for some time to grab something to eat and spend some time with Bowie before Adam comes home.

#8 Playtime with Bowie

It's a bit too hot outside to go run around in the summer in Phoenix, so Bowie and I will play games and work on our training commands every day to tire him out for a while before Adam comes home.

#9 Adam returns home

When Adam comes home from work, we always stop to catch up for a few minutes and hang out with Bowie. When he comes home, it also gives me a couple of minutes to do any preparation I need to do for dinner without any distractions.

#10 Prepare dinner

Any meal prep I need to get done will be happening around this time of day before I go for a workout.

#11 Go to the Gym

Even if it's just for 30 minutes, I will be proactively trying to go to our community gym each and every day this summer! A lot of times I struggle with allowing myself 'me time' when I'm busy, but this is just one way I want to make time for me and also listen to some podcasts or music while I sweat it out for a while before dinner.

#12 Dinner

Even if we are both busy, we try to make time to prepare our own dinner. If the day is crazy hectic, we may end up having something small and not have a full-blown sit-down dinner together.

#13 Work

Most of my work tends to get done at night during the summer and also the very early morning hours. I would say more than half of my work is done at night, and then the remaining half is sprinkled out throughout the day. At night, I spend time brainstorming, planning, writing, editing, and scheduling out my content for the week.

#14 Go to bed

Before I go to bed, no matter how busy my day has been, I always make sure to wash my face and follow through with my skincare routine.

Other than breakfast, Adam and I usually spend time right before bed talking and catching up on our day. We also like to watch some tv together and try to wind down together before we lie down in bed to go to sleep.

As of last week, school is out for the summer for Adam so now is the busiest he will be all year long. Working as an IT manager, he is responsible for a number of tasks that need to be accomplished while the students and teachers hand in their school equipment and he will get them ready for the next school year. To top things off, they are making some big changes over the school's summer break that he has a hand in finishing so he will be working on all of that for the next few months.

Adam will be working many long hours and it's likely he will be working plenty of overtime at home. Last summer, he was bringing in loads of different school equipment home with him every day after work and staying up hours throughout the night doing hardware updates and calibrating software.

As for me, I have found myself taking my Poshmark side hustle to the next level. Last year, I started reselling items in my closet on Poshmark and since I started intertwining that with my Instagram it has gotten a lot bigger and more successful than I had imagined it would be. Reselling items from my closet and a few of my friends' closets have been fun, but more than anything, it's been a way for me to make some money on the side when I find myself not running into that many blog post collaborations that seem to be a good fit for us and our blog.

I would not say that the blog is not doing so well for me, but things do tend to slow down as far as collaborations go this time of year. It's nothing to do with me personally, but a lot of times, PR companies will go on break for the summer and many agencies take time off to celebrate the summer holiday. Last year, I found that the summer was busy for me, but in the way that I was constantly having to send emails requesting collaborations or I was preparing future travel plans for the blog which can often be time-intensive and require many hours of preparation, sending emails, and taking conference calls.

This summer, I will proactively be taking on more to do with my Poshmark closet as I anticipate that the paid blog sponsorships may slow down over the summer. I have been blogging for many years, and in my experience, the summer is usually not very busy so I am anticipating a slowdown of new collaborations until school starts back up.

That being said, I do have some awesome projects lined up that I will be working on over the summer, but these have been in the works for a few weeks if not months already. My typical workday will be about 70% blogging and around 30% Poshmark. On a normal summer day, I may only work 10 hours so I see myself dedicating no more than 3 hours a day to my Poshmark side hustle. But no matter what I am working on, I usually have a cup of
Chameleon Cold-Brew Black Concentrate near me!

Chameleon Cold-Brew Black Concentrate is by far our favorite cold brew we can get at our neighborhood Fry's! We love that it's certified organic, expertly crafted, and that each batch is made with only sustainably-grown and ethically sourced coffee beans. Just one of these 32oz concentrates will last me an entire week! It goes so well with a lot of the different seasonal milk we like to use around the fall and winter, and in the summer it tastes perfect just mixed with water.

    1. I wish I could say the same, but here in the valley the heat tends to stick at night but maybe it drops down to 95 at midnight-2am but still pretty unbearable for the nighttime. In Phoenix, my usual time to be outside is the morning for sure.
