2020 has forced us to think outside of the box when it comes to elevating date night at home.

Going out to eat to sit down at a bar is not the safest or most responsible thing to in the middle of a pandemic. In fact, we have not sat down at a bar or restaurant since the beginning of March. With many months passing and no date night outside of the house, we've taken it upon ourselves to put the money we would have spent on going out to bars and going out to eat and putting it towards things like appliances in our home. Throughout the course of this year, we have upgraded our items in our kitchen including the coffee machine, toaster oven, and now a wine fridge. Since we've made these upgrades, eating at home and having our date nights in our living room feel a little more elevated and the quality of what we eat and drink has definitely improved. So if there's even one upside to self-quarantine, it's that our home has some nicer appliances now.

When Adam and I talk about our dream home, we always make a plan to include a wine cellar. But with the circumstances right now, that's definitely not feasible. So what's the next best thing? A wine fridge!

The biggest selling points for us and owning a wine fridge is enhancing the taste of our wine for our at-home date nights, as well as a durable place to store wine bottles until we are ready to open them. Many wine connoisseurs already have a wine fridge, but for us, it was something we waited on until we had collected more than a few bottles of wine we wanted to store for safekeeping. For instance, we have 2 bottles of wine that I received during my bachelorette party. I have been holding onto them for many years and I have always been worried they would slip off of the shelf and break. Now that we have a wine fridge, they are perfectly tucked away and safe and I know that when the time comes for us to open the wine bottles my sorority sisters decorated back in 2010 they will be in-tact.

As far as how it's been for us having a wine fridge and our date nights go, it's definitely made all the difference! One of our favorite ways to have a date night at home is to enjoy putting together cheese plates and having a glass of wine in the early evening before dinner. Our wine fridge keeps our wines chilled and stored efficiently in a stainless steel fridge that's small enough for our space but big enough to hold up to 33 bottles of wine. We have the NewAir Freestanding 33 Bottle Compressor Wine Fridge in Stainless Steel. Luckily, they offer delivery so it was brought right to our door and we didn't have to try to lift it upstairs. If you are looking to invest in a wine fridge for your home, we really like ours and we would recommend it if you're looking to buy one this holiday season. You can also use our coupon code 'OURMINIFAMILY' at checkout to save some money on the NewAir website, too!

This is our Halloween-inspired cheeseboard adorned with our favorite cheeses, crackers, fruit, popcorn, and caramel candy apples! We also added some skulls for a little bit of spooky decor for our board.

For our spooky-themed, at-home date night that we had this week, Adam and I watched The Haunting of Bly Manor on Netflix and enjoyed this spread. We opened a bottle of wine that my mom sent us in the mail, and we had these crackers and cheeses for dinner while we sipped on our perfectly chilled wine.
