2020 has been a wild and crazy ride. For everyone.

Back in March, when our self-quarantine began, I had hope that things would be different this time of year. I had plans to try to visit with my mom for the holidays, or maybe take a nice vacation with Adam and Bowie for New Year's Eve. But the pandemic had other plans for us--and those plans included staying home.

After almost an entire year of staying at home, I learned a lot about how beauty routine plays a part in my everyday routine. I learned that I will not wear a full face of full coverage makeup unless I plan on seeing someone in person. I also learned that it's absolutely appropriate to wear minimal makeup for Zoom calls. Oh, and that when half of your face is covered with a face mask, it takes a lot less time to actually put on makeup!

Speaking of Zoom, I want to point out that 95% of the time I talked to someone "face to face" it was through a Zoom call. There were a few opportunities to meet with clients in person, but it did not seem like the responsible thing to do so I said no and offered to set up a Zoom call. But when the Zoom calls started, I was waking up and putting on a full face of makeup only to see that 1) it was not looking the same on camera as it was in person and 2) it seemed almost insincere to wear so much makeup when not seeing someone in person when the other person I was talking to was wearing no makeup.

So at this point, I began focusing on having a 'fresh face' of makeup when I had Zoom calls that seemed more appropriate. My old routine of spending 30-45 minutes of full foundation and contour turned into 10-15 minutes of moisturizer, sunscreen, concealer, eyebrow pencil, and mascara.

2020 beauty was all about feeling fresh and looking video conference-ready. These are the best of the best products I used throughout 2020!

Juvia's Place I AM MAGIC Liquid Foundation

You may be surprised to see a high coverage foundation on my best of 2020 post---and honestly, I am surprised, too! Sitting at home most of the year, I did not wear nearly as much makeup as I normally would in any given year. While I did not wear foundation very often, the times that I did, it was because I really wanted full coverage. I heard people saying this foundation from Juvia's Place was incredible, but I had yet to try it. During one of their sales, I snagged 2 different shades since I was not sure which one would be better for my skin tone. Let's just say that this has quickly become one of my favorite high coverage foundations!

For the long-time coverage, the price, and the fact that it's a smaller brand, I am absolutely loving the Juvia's Place I AM MAGIC Liquid Foundation. It is always nice to support smaller brands, but the fact that this foundation outperforms the Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Long Wear Foundation I have been using for years is what put this at the top of my 2020 best of beauty list! I realize that this foundation from Juvia's Place isn't marketed as a long-wear foundation, but I was so impressed with how it held up all day that I decided it was worth testing against my long-time loved Lancôme. It's obviously more matte than the Lancôme I use, but the wear was undeniably better! Needless to say, I won't be picking up the Lancôme again for a long time now that I've found a new favorite foundation! Grab this foundation when you shop at Ulta online--find your best shade here

Wander Beauty Unlashed Volume and Curl Mascara

2020 was all about Zoom calls, and my Wander Beauty Unlashed Volume and Curl Mascara got me through them all!

I've given up wearing false eyelashes when I'm just staying at home avoiding the pandemic. Seeing that it's not going to change any time soon, I know that the Zoom calls are not going away and I will continue to pick up my mascara to really make my eyes pop on camera without looking like I put in too much effort. This Wander Beauty mascara is a really nice alternative to wearing false eyelashes. It gives my lashes a lot of volume and curl and does not weigh them down or make them look too chunky. I really love this mascara wand, and I will continue to pick up the Wander Beauty Unlashed Volume and Curl Mascara throughout 2021! Available for Amazon Prime delivery when you shop here

Glo Skin Beauty Pro 5 Liquid Exfoliant

I absolutely love Glo Skin Beauty and I have had incredible results from so many of their skincare products. This year, I tried their Pro 5 Liquid Exfoliant and it was such a game-changer for my skin!

The Glo Skin Beauty Pro 5 Liquid Exfoliant brought the most dramatic results to my skin this year. The key to any skincare product is to stay consistent. This is exactly how I approached using this liquid exfoliant and in time, I could finally see how much my skin had improved! For your reference, my skincare concerns lately and most of this year have been blackheads, pores, texture, and fine lines. Now that I'm in my 30s, I am starting to see some fine lines appear on my face so that has become more of a skincare concern. Using this liquid exfoliant, my skin improved all around in every way! The faint fine lines around my forehead became less noticeable, my pores appear minimized, my skin texture is much smoother, and my blackheads on my chin and nose have decreased noticeably!

This Glo Skin Beauty Pro 5 Liquid Exfoliant is the best liquid exfoliant I have ever used, and it's going on my list of holy grail skincare items! Get it delivered to your door fast with your Amazon Prime subscription--find it on Amazon here

Pixi Milky Tonic

I have heard a lot about the Pixi Glow Tonic over the years. Admittedly, I am not a fan of that tonic. I am not too keen on the ingredients in their Glow Tonic formula, so I have always steered clear of it. When I learned of the Pixi Milky Tonic, I was happier with the ingredients in this formula and decided to try it out.

Throughout 2020, I spent a lot of time focusing on consistency in my skincare routine and facial toner is admittedly one product I oftentimes skip. Including the toner step and using the Pixi Milky Tonic definitely helped with my skincare routine! One thing I really like about this toner is that it is alcohol-free. It definitely adds a nice boost of hydration to my skin to help balance it before I continue with my skincare routine with some of the penetrating serums I like to weave into my skincare routine through the week. I will continue to use this toner in 2021, and if you have been slacking on using toner in your routine, I highly recommend you give this Pixi Milky Tonic a try! Available online at Target!

Maria Nila Eco Therapy Revive Shampoo & Conditioner

Normally, I only wash my hair 3 times a week. Since 2020 started and we have been staying at home in self-quarantine, admittedly I only wash my hair once a week. I have noticed incredible results with my hair and my hydration by doing this as well as using the Maria Nila Eco Therapy Revive Shampoo, Conditioner, and Hair Masque

Living in the Phoenix desert, you can only imagine how dry my skin and hair can get. My hair is almost always feeling dry and brittle. Once I started regularly using Maria Nila, my hair felt so much softer, less brittle, and not at all dry. The Maria Nila Eco Therapy Revive Shampoo and Conditioner coupled with their Hair Masque is such a game-changer for my hair! My hair used to feel so lifeless to the touch, but now my hair is silky and soft without blow drying my hair and any styling products in it. I absolutely love these hair products and if you have been feeling like your hair needs some moisturizing, I highly recommend you give the products from the Maria Nila Eco Therapy Revive line a try. Shop the Maria Nila Amazon store and get your hands on their incredible hair products fast with your Amazon Prime!

Base blue Cosmetics 2-in-1 Makeup Brush A

I tried a number of great makeup brushes this year, but the best one by far was the Base blue Cosmetics 2-in-1 Makeup Brush A. This brush has a nice weight to it, and it feels velvety to the touch. I love using this brush for my loose powders. On the days when I am feeling like my skin is a bit more oily than I would like and I want a more matte finish, I will apply loose powder and/or setting powder with this brush and it looked great! This brush also has a small angled brush hidden underneath the large brush--I used this smaller brush to gently tap powder to my undereye area. Be sure to add this to your shopping cart on Walmart.com--click here to find this makeup brush on Walmart's website

OSEA Undaria Body Polish

I absolutely LOVE OSEA and I think they are an incredible skincare brand that is not talked about enough! I enjoy so many of their products, but this year, my absolute favorite product of theirs was the OSEA Undaria Body Polish.

The OSEA Undaria Body Polish is a luxurious, physical exfoliant that works so great before I shave my legs and also before I give myself an at-home pedicure. It is made with amazing ingredients for physical exfoliation of the skin like Undaria seaweed, hemp seed oil, and volcanic pumice. I apply it right in the shower just before I shave my legs, and it leaves my skin so soft! Beyond the excellent formula and the right kinds of ingredients, I really love that this body polish comes in a tub and not a tube. I scoop a little bit out and I always get the right amount I need without wasting any excess product which is awesome! As we near closer to the warmer months, be sure to get your hands on this incredible body polish and your legs will look and feel amazing! Add this incredible OSEA body polish to your Amazon shopping cart.

Jane Iredale Mystikol® Powdered Eyeliner

I have a love-hate relationship with eyeliner. I have never truly mastered the art of getting the perfect winged eyeliner, so I tend to not go for any eyeliner at all. That said, once I realized that powdered eyeliner is way more forgiving than liquid eyeliner, I started testing out different powdered eyeliners to find one that I like that works well for me.

The Jane Iredale Mystikol® Powdered Eyeliner is the best-powdered eyeliner I have tried! Once I realized how much I liked it and how easy it was to use, I bought every single shade they had in stock. You can get this eyeliner delivered with Amazon Prime--find all of their eyeliners here

Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Framboos™ Glycolic Resurfacing Night Serum

Never have I loved a serum as much as I adore the Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Framboos™ Glycolic Resurfacing Night Serum. If you have already read our 'best normal-combination skin face serums' blog post, you already know how much I am obsessed with this night serum from Drunk Elephant.

When I first tried this serum, it was the first time I had any major results come about rather quickly while using a night serum. My skin felt incredible the next morning and just looked and felt healthier. Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Framboos™ Glycolic Resurfacing Night Serum is made with a bounty of awesome ingredients that generate more turnover to help you see some major changes to your skin. The secret is in their trademarked AHA blend--the Framboos™ blend of AHAs includes a number of acids to help exfoliate built-up dead skin cells and leaves skin brighter and smoother.

The exfoliation of this serum only took 1 night to make a difference for my skin, and that is why I have been loving it all year long! Incredible results that happen fast is hard to find in skincare, but this Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Framboos™ Glycolic Resurfacing Night Serum is one of my holy grails for a reason! This serum is worth every penny. And you can get it delivered with Amazon Prime--find it on Amazon here

PopBeauty Plump Pout (Clear Ice)

Hands down, the PopBeauty Plump Pout in the shade "Clear Ice" is the best clear lipgloss I have tried in as long as I can remember! I'm going to go ahead and call it now--it's a new holy grail item for me!

I can not stand sticky lipgloss, and this one is not sticky in the slightest. It has a great glossy shine to it, and it layers perfectly with all of my lip stains, lipsticks, and tinted lip balms. One thing to note is that it does have a cooling, minty feeling on the lips. You know, a little bit of a tingle. I don't mind that at all, but I think it's worth mentioning if you have a preference for tingling lip glosses. Another thing I really like about this and is worth mentioning is that it has affordability and is considered a drug store brand. I was able to find this at my local CVS.

Versed Day Dissolve Cleansing Balm

If you are a believer in the double cleanse method, you definitely need this Versed Day Dissolve Cleansing Balm! Without hesitation, I say that this is by far the best cleansing balm I have used!

I have talked about how much I love the Versed Day Dissolve Cleansing Balm a number of times on the blog throughout 2020, and ending the year with my "best of" products would not be right without including it!

The most unique part about this cleansing balm is that it is eye-safe. So, if you wear eye makeup, this is also an incredible way to remove your makeup without drying your eyelids (like how other eye makeup removers are often made with drying ingredients like alcohol). There are many reasons why I love this cleansing balm, and while I don't want to bore you with all of the reasons I will say this: it is affordable, the product goes a long way, and it will be a game-changer for your nighttime skincare routine.

  14. Since we rarely go out, I minimize the use of make-ups and since wearing face masks is a must when going out, I guess I will just buy some eye related products such as eye liner and mascara. Let's see and give it a try on those products.
