I've been seeing a lot of moss materials included in wedding planning online, and I could not help but think, "darn, that would look amazing in my house!" So I wanted to take it upon myself to create my own moss letters decor!

For our DIY flowered moss letters, we used 4 standard wooden letters (which can be purchased at most craft supply stores).
Apart from the wooden letters, we also used: 2 feet of moss, floral tape, tissue paper, watercolor paint, floral wire, scissors, a hot glue gun.
To start, cut out your moss into the shape of your letters. Then, glue the moss to the letters and let it dry.
While you're waiting for your glued moss letters to dry, put together some tissue paper to use to decorate into flowers!
My favorite way to dye tissue paper is by putting just a small amount of water onto a plate, and then sprinkling in and mixing a small spoonful of watercolor onto the plate. Unlike food coloring, watercolor allows you the ability to really get the exact shade you are looking for (and experiment with the saturation of your colors).
The fabulous thing about these tissue paper flowers is that they are unique! Not all sections of each square of tissue paper looks the same, which parallels the beauty and individuality of a real flower.
Once the tissue paper is dry, cut squares out of the dyed tissue paper.
What we'll be doing is creating the shapes of the flowers, and to do this you'll want to fold the circles in half over and over again.
Continue to fold the paper in half, until you have a small sliver of tissue paper.
I would recommend experimenting with how the flowers' petals look by switching it up when you are folding--try and fold some less and fold others even more to get a variety of flower shapes!
Then with just a small amount of floral wire, make a hook on one end where you'll be attaching the tissue paper. Then, cut a shape into the top of the tissue paper flower to create its petal shape (think about the same method of how making paper snowflakes works).
Poke a hole through the middle of the tissue paper, and form the tissue paper around the hooked floral wire. Also, here is one example of how cutting the top of the floral tissue will give you a unique flower petal shape (to achieve this look, I cut a small mountain shape into my folded paper).
Using floral tape, wrap the tissue paper around the floral tape to create the shape of a flower and stem.
Don't obsess too much about how each individual tissue paper flower looks--you will be amazed at how amazing all of your different tissue paper flowers look stacked together!
Once you're happy with the tissue paper flowers you've created, you can begin to arrange them and sort out how you want them to look once you've created a bloom of them together.
Using more floral tape, wrap the flowers together in a bunch in the way that you want to have them show on top of your moss covered letters. Trim the excess floral wire from the bottom, and then attach the floral bunch to your moss letters with more hot glue.
Every time I go to do a load of laundry with my Suavitel® Fragrance Pearls™, I see my DIY flowered moss letters project. I love having a constant reminder of the beautiful things I can make with my hands, and what I can do to wind down and really embrace my creative side.
My Suavitel® Fragrance Pearls™ in the "Field Flowers" scent really does smell incredible! This in-wash scent booster makes my clothes smell amazing 5x longer. I also like the smell of the "Lavender" Suavitel® Fragrance Pearls™, too.
When I visited my local Walmart last week, I was able to smell a sample of the Suavitel® Fragrance Pearls™ in the "Field Flowers" scent. As soon as I realized I really liked it, I headed straight for the laundry detergent aisle to grab some of my own. There will also be some Suavitel® Fragrance Pearls™ samples on select Suavitel® liquid fabric conditioners at select Walmart stores across the country.
I seriously adore the way it came out, and I may even add more tissue paper flowers on all of the letters with time!
What decorations do you have (or want to have) in your laundry room?
Wow glad I came across this post. Amazing concept and love how the flowers came out. So good to see your DIY projects around the house. Feels like accomplishment!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much--and yes I totally agree! Love putting my DIYs on display!
DeleteThat is seriously cute. I love how it came out :)
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteGreat idea! I love how the flowers just added a bit of color to the moss. I will have to try this out one day. I am always looking for easy projects to do, but I must admit, I am not a very good DIY person. I think I could handle this one...we shall see...bookmarking ;)
ReplyDeleteOh you definitely don't have to have advanced arts and crafts skills for this one! It's actually pretty easy and very fun! Hope you do try it! :D
DeleteCute! I will have to remember that!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Deletevery cool DIY, love the flowers and how easy it looks to make them. I don;t have space to decorate in my laundry room yet these flowers make a wonderful gift for mother's day.
ReplyDeleteOh yes it would make a great gift for mother's day! You are right!
Deletelove that craft. I don't have much decor in mine.
ReplyDeleteThanks--and I hear you! It was essentially the last place I started decorating, too.
DeleteI love it. I wish that we had a bigger laundry room. Our laundry room is pretty drab.
ReplyDeleteI completely hear you! That is why I wanted to bring in something fun to cheer the place up a bit.
DeleteThat is so cute! My laundry room could use a little love like this. Love the lettering!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Heather!
DeleteThat is so cute! I love lavender, too. It's my scent of choice when it comes to fabric conditioners and air fresheners.
ReplyDeleteMmm yes! Lavender smells amazing.
DeleteMy laundry room is tiny, so I would only have room for something on one area of the wall. I'd like to put a pretty canvas print on the wall.
ReplyDeleteI think that would be really cute on the wall! The letters do come with the hole in the back for hanging, so I could easily do that myself. I think a canvas print would look nice, too!
DeleteThis is such a cute DIY. I just love it!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!
DeleteWow. This is perfect for a laundry room, We could try this with the kids, I have always amaze with your DIY projects ;)
ReplyDeleteAww you are so kind! That totally makes my day!
DeleteI have no decor in my laundry room-a shelf with cleaning supplies is all :-)
ReplyDeleteThat's a good idea to store your cleaning supplies in your laundry room! Mine are currently taking up all the space under my bathroom sink.
DeleteThis is really cute. I wish I had a laundry room, our washer and dryer is in the garage.
ReplyDeleteYou could totally decorate your garage!
DeleteThat is just too, too cute. I love this idea and I wouldn't mind doing it for my place too!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteThis is totally an awesome idea indeed with the flowered moss letters. It would be fun to do with the kids too. It makes a great wall decoration for sure and it is so pretty. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYou are very welcome! I can definitely see the kids helping get the tissue paper dyed and making the flowers! I would just be cautious with the hot glue gun :)
DeleteWhat a great creative idea and project. I love that WASH sign and the paper flowers. I might consider it too.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I hope you try making it! It was a fun project for sure.
DeleteThat is so cute! i wouldn't have thought of this on my own. I'll have to try this out with my girls.
ReplyDeleteYou for sure should!
DeleteLove it! We have a few signs we just threw on the walls after we painted the laundry room, but nothing creative like this! #client
ReplyDeleteThank you! Signs can be cute, too!
