DIY Flowered Moss Letters

I've been seeing a lot of moss materials included in wedding planning online, and I could not help but think, "darn, that would look amazing in my house!" So I wanted to take it upon myself to create my own moss letters decor!

For our DIY flowered moss letters, we used 4 standard wooden letters (which can be purchased at most craft supply stores). 

Apart from the wooden letters, we also used: 2 feet of moss, floral tape, tissue paper, watercolor paint, floral wire, scissors, a hot glue gun.

To start, cut out your moss into the shape of your letters. Then, glue the moss to the letters and let it dry.

While you're waiting for your glued moss letters to dry, put together some tissue paper to use to decorate into flowers! 

My favorite way to dye tissue paper is by putting just a small amount of water onto a plate, and then sprinkling in and mixing a small spoonful of watercolor onto the plate. Unlike food coloring, watercolor allows you the ability to really get the exact shade you are looking for (and experiment with the saturation of your colors). 

The fabulous thing about these tissue paper flowers is that they are unique! Not all sections of each square of tissue paper looks the same, which parallels the beauty and individuality of a real flower. 

Once the tissue paper is dry, cut squares out of the dyed tissue paper. 

What we'll be doing is creating the shapes of the flowers, and to do this you'll want to fold the circles in half over and over again.

Continue to fold the paper in half, until you have a small sliver of tissue paper. 

I would recommend experimenting with how the flowers' petals look by switching it up when you are folding--try and fold some less and fold others even more to get a variety of flower shapes!

Then with just a small amount of floral wire, make a hook on one end where you'll be attaching the tissue paper. Then, cut a shape into the top of the tissue paper flower to create its petal shape (think about the same method of how making paper snowflakes works). 

Poke a hole through the middle of the tissue paper, and form the tissue paper around the hooked floral wire. Also, here is one example of how cutting the top of the floral tissue will give you a unique flower petal shape (to achieve this look, I cut a small mountain shape into my folded paper). 

Using floral tape, wrap the tissue paper around the floral tape to create the shape of a flower and stem.

Don't obsess too much about how each individual tissue paper flower looks--you will be amazed at how amazing all of your different tissue paper flowers look stacked together!

Once you're happy with the tissue paper flowers you've created, you can begin to arrange them and sort out how you want them to look once you've created a bloom of them together.

Using more floral tape, wrap the flowers together in a bunch in the way that you want to have them show on top of your moss covered letters. Trim the excess floral wire from the bottom, and then attach the floral bunch to your moss letters with more hot glue.

I seriously adore the way it came out, and I may even add more tissue paper flowers on all of the letters with time!
