Did you know that I was a high school teacher before I became a full-time blogger? Yup, it's true! I was a teacher right here in Phoenix while I was studying at Arizona State University. Even though I am not a teacher any more, literacy has always been (and always will be) important to me.

Growing up as an only child, my books were my place to escape to. I have so many fond memories of the stories that I enjoyed, and the books that truly touched my heart.  From a young age, my reading comprehension skills far surpassed those of my peers; I was always fond of reading, regardless of the subject matter, and I know with absolute certainty that having access to a school library played an integral part of why I did so well in school. Literacy is the key to a student's success, and it's incredibly sad to know that there are many Arizona schools and libraries that are in desperate need of both English and Spanish book donations (and yes, Spanish books are available!)

When I first heard about how Kellogg's® partnered with Scholastic book this year, I was absolutely ecstatic! When I go to Walmart to buy groceries between now and 9/11/15, if I pick up specially marked Kellogg's® products I can claim a FREE book through my Kellogg's Family Rewards account. Since Adam and I don't have children to give the books to, I'll be donating my books to some students in need right here in the valley!

Do YOU know any kids who'd benefit from some free books? If you do, I'm more than happy to walk you through the process of how to claim your books through the Kellogg's Family Rewards if you are interested!

First, you'll want to go to Walmart and purchase specially marked Kellogg's® products, and be sure look for the Kellogg's Family Rewards information on the box! You can also buy directly from the Walmart website and receive a free book from purchases made between 7/21/15 and 9/11/15--just look  for the "Buy Now" button at for a list of all eligible items. Next, you'll need to make a free, Kellogg's Family Rewards account if you don't already have one. In order to claim your book through the Kellogg's Family Rewards account, you'll need to upload your receipt; there are 3 ways you can upload your receipt, via text, via scanning into your computer or Kellogg's Family Reward app - only when you purchase ONLINE between 7/21 - 9/11.

There are only a few steps involved, and the Kelloggs' website is definitely user-friendly! This is a quick slideshow of the websites you'll see that I made--it shows the steps needed to create an account. The Kellogg's site asks for information like your name, email, a password for your account, your mailing address, and other generic information about your shopping habits. One thing to keep in mind is that you have to redeem your code(s) for a free Scholastic book within 14 days of purchase – no matter when you buy the product, you only have 14 days to redeem.

1 Kellogg's product = 1 free, full-length Scholastic book

(Each person can redeem up to 30 books)

If you want to donate your books to Arizona students in need, check out this list I've compiled of places accepting donations throughout the valley below. Also, I encourage you to directly contact your local school, since most school libraries will accept book donations.

So if there's ever been a reason to eat more Rice Krispies Treats, this is it! Adam and I felt less guilty indulging in this childhood favorite dessert since we knew that we could help out some students by purchasing Kellogg's Rice Krispies.

Oh and if you're wondering, we drizzled some chocolate sauce on top of our Rice Krispies Treats! So good!

Be sure to check out more books available via this Kellogg's offer at'd love to hear your favorite book offered! #Back2SchoolReady
