Supporting the Phoenix Children's Hospital with Toyota

Learn more about how my partners, the Valley Toyota Dealers here in Phoenix, are giving back to our community through their generous donation to Phoenix Children's Hospital!

Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the grand opening of the emergency department and level 1 pediatric trauma center at Phoenix Children's Hospital. My friends from Toyota here in Arizona contacted me to let me know about the event and they invited me to take part in a teddy bear drive for patients in the new trauma center at Phoenix Children's Hospital.

Community service and giving back to my community-at-large has been something I am passionate about since my days at Arizona State University. When I pledged and joined Omega Phi Alpha, the community service sorority at ASU, I found a passion in helping others here in Phoenix by participating in a number of local food drives, community service events, and learning the ways of giving back from my other amazing sorority sisters who had already found their love of giving back. Since my days as a college student, admittedly, I have not dedicated as much time giving back as I would like to do. But every once in a while, a project finds its way to me and the timing works out perfectly and I am reminded of the days when I was spending hours every week working on community service projects while I was in college.

A few weeks ago, Toyota reached out to me to give me all of the information about the grand opening of the emergency department and level 1 pediatric trauma center at Phoenix Children's Hospital, as well as the teddy bear drive for the kids at PCH. Once I got all of the details, I was so excited to take part in this event, and I drove all around town trying to get my hands on as many teddy bears as I could fit into the back of the 2017 Toyota Avalon Touring!

Toyota USA and the Valley Toyota Dealers here in Phoenix pledged to donate $250,000 to Phoenix Children's Hospital and their new emergency department and trauma center!

When I learned this, I actually got a little bit teary-eyed and I felt so proud to be in partnership with such a generous automotive company! Toyota really does take care of its people here in the valley, and it's always a pleasure to help use my blog and my social media platform to spread the word about them (especially when it involves doing good and helping our community!)

I was fortunate enough that they lent me the 2017 Toyota Avalon Touring so I could make my way around town picking up as many teddy bears as I could before the event! I made sure to take advantage of my sweet ride for the week and spent some time looking for different spots to shop for teddy bears for the event I went to last Friday.

The 2017 Toyota Avalon Touring has a predictive traffic feature that comes in handy when you're running errands like I was all week long. The  2017 Toyota Avalon Touring's HD Radio Predictive Traffic can help you avoid traffic jams even before they happen, which is a common problem in our neck of the woods since we live near ASU and we tend to hit traffic while classes are letting out! On top of the predictive traffic technology, I also took advantage of the wireless phone charger and kept my phone from dying while I was out all day and night running errands thanks to the 2017 Toyota Avalon Touring's Qi-compatible wireless smartphone charging technology!

The morning of the grand opening of the emergency department and level 1 pediatric trauma center at Phoenix Children's Hospital, I hopped into the 2017 Toyota Avalon Touring and drove downtown to donate my teddy bears and get a tour of the facility!

When I arrived, I was greeted by smiling faces and literally hundreds of adorable teddy bears ready to be donated to the kiddos at Phoenix Children's Hospital! The event was a total success and many people came to the grand opening. Apart from the teddy bear drive, they also had some fun activities for children like face painting and also had a generous breakfast buffet for guests.

I had the chance to speak to a few people who have had previous experience with Phoenix Children's Hospital, as well as the staff working at PCH and it became clear to me just how important this new trauma center is for our community (and what a tremendous impact it will have on so many families here in the valley!)

We were able to take a tour of the new facility with one of the PCH doctors, and it was incredible to learn all about how these new changes, upgrades, and state-of-the-art technology will greatly improve the effectiveness of the hospital to run more smoothly and successfully as well as improve patient care and comfort. I was able to learn a lot about the new facility, but a few facts stuck out in my mind.

Before this grand opening of the emergency department and level 1 pediatric trauma center at Phoenix Children's Hospital, they only had a capacity to annually serve 22,00 patients. They serviced 84,000 patients, which is nearly 4x what they were capable of handling. With the new facility, they will now be able to serve 100,000 patients annually! They also have tripled their private exam rooms, doubled their trauma patient capacity, and have decreased their time it takes to get a child from the helipad to a trauma room from 4:51 minutes down to 1:29 minutes!

It was so wonderful to experience first-hand just how much this new facility means to the staff at Phoenix Children's Hospital, and it was heart-warming to hear about all of the generous donations made to make this new center a possibility (including the Valley Toyota Dealers and their $250,000 donation pledge!)

Thank you to Valley Toyota Dealers for inviting me to this event, inviting me to join the teddy bear drive and take advantage of the 2017 Toyota Avalon Touring to get to and from the event, as well as bringing their generous donation to PCH to my attention so I can help spread the word about the good news for our community!
