6 Beauty Essentials for a Dry Summer

Summer is here in the valley of the sun, which means it's time to change up my daily beauty routine!

Well, this is it, y'all! Summer is officially here in Phoenix. We had a good run this spring, and we only had one or two 100 degrees days up until this weekend. But now that it seems that the heat has fallen into the valley it won't be leaving any time soon.

With all of the dry heat that comes with summer, it requires a specific skin care and beauty regimen to maintain comfortable and healthy skin all season long. From hair care to skin care (and even lip care), today I am sharing more than a few of my beauty essentials that are perfect for helping me survive and thrive while living in the desert in the summertime!

#1 Dry Shampoo

I recently shared some of my hair goals for my thirties on the blog and talked about how I have been making an effort to cut back on washing my hair. This is especially crucial when it comes to dry weather. Shampooing and blowdrying my hair tends to strip the moisture away from my hair if I do it every day, so I like to only wash my hair in the shower once a week. And the same goes for blow drying my hair--only once a week.

The best way to feel and look clean all week with "dirty" hair is with dry shampoo, and being a dark brunette, I have always struggled to find one that didn't give me crazy white roots. This dry shampoo from VERB is my new holy grail dry shampoo!  It's made specifically for dark hair, and it gives my hair life every day I use it, and it really extends the life of a normal wash and blowout to last me up to 7 full days in-between washing and blow-drying my hair.

#2 High-Quality Sunscreen

Every day starts with sunscreen, but most importantly, I like to use a lightweight sunscreen in the dry summer heat that goes on ultra smooth and can be buildable all day long as I need to reapply. This mineral sunscreen from Glo Skin Beauty comes SPF 50 and it's made specifically for sensitive skin. I love that it is so light that I can wear it by itself or underneath my makeup for the day as an added layer of sun protection.

Glo Skin Beauty is such an eco-friendly brand that I have been loving lately, and if you're needing to stock up on sunscreen for your face and neck for this summer I definitely recommend this one

#3 Oil-Free Moisturizer with SPF

Every morning in the summer, I like to wash my face to get the sweat and oils off of my face after I go to the gym. Sometimes I end up getting a workout in later in the morning after I have already done my skincare routine that morning, so after I wash my face, I will need to reapply some products. This oil-free moisturizer from Mario Badescu has been in my gym bag ever since I first tried it!

This moisturizer has a creamy, lotion-like texture that feels wonderful and calming after I have been exercising and washed my face. It's smooth, instantly adds moisture, and it's SPF 30. It's also made with green tea extract, which I believe is why my face feels instantly calmed when I apply it.

#4 Gentle Cream Cleanser

At the start and end of every day, no matter how busy of a day I have, I always make time to wash my face and run through my skincare basics.

This cream cleanser from Glo Skin Beauty is by far the most gentle cream cleanser and the ideal start to washing my face before I apply sunscreen and makeup, as well as in the evenings when I begin removing the summer sweat, oil, and debris from my face. I like that it's so gentle that my face does not feel stripped or dry after using it, and it's been made specifically to help the skin maintain its natural moisture (this is key for when it's dry and hot outside).

#5 Lip Balm

This Mario Badescu lip balm has stayed in my purse ever since I first tried it!

This is my absolute holy grail lip balm, and it has saved me on more than a handful of occasions when my lips have felt dry, cracked, and needing some TLC. My lips tend to get drier and cracked in the summer as opposed to the winter, so it's crucial that I always have lip balm nearby and I will be keeping this Mario Badescu lip blam with me all summer long.

#6 Cucumber Eye Pads

Sometimes a girl's just gotta sit in the dark with some cucumber eye pads on her eyes after a long day, and these pads from Earth Therapeutics are my go-to eye pads on the hottest days of the year.

Chill these bad boys in the fridge for a couple of hours and then pop them on at the end of the day after you've been out in the heat and it feels incredible! If you're not too keen on putting eye pads on your eyes for more than a few seconds, I also like to chill soup spoons in my freezer and it has a similar effect (but make sure to run the spoons under room temperature water before you put them on your eyes otherwise if you don't they may stick to your eyelids).
