Our Fur Baby Staycation at The Scottsdale Resort

We are sharing all of the details behind our staycation in Scottsdale with our fur baby, Bowie!

Since becoming pup parents, Adam and I have admittedly done a lot less traveling than we used to do. Bowie is our baby and requires a lot of care and attention, and while we know that we have options to put him up in a nice pet hotel, we would rather make sure he is fully done with his training and almost a year old before we consider leaving him overnight with some strangers.

While we didn't want to travel away from our dog, Adam and I wanted to celebrate our wedding anniversary here in the valley so we could bring Bowie along with us. Traveling with a pup isn't always easy, but luckily, we are fortunate that pet-friendly hotels are increasingly becoming more popular and their pet fees are becoming more and more reasonable. We enjoy bringing him along with us whenever we can, so when we learned that The Scottsdale Resort at McCormick Ranch was dog-friendly we booked our wedding anniversary staycation with them.

Once we pulled up to the lobby, we all hopped out of the car and went inside to check-in and enjoy some air conditioning. Everyone immediately made Bowie feel special and came over and kneeled down to say hi to him, and as a dog mom this is always such a relief when I bring him somewhere and I know that not only is he allowed to be there but that he is celebrated to be joining us.

We grabbed our key and a map, and we hopped back in the car to make our way over to our building so we could get into our room. Our room had lots of space, which was especially great with Bowie, and we had a large living room and an oversized dining table connected to our main room. We had such a nice space in our room that we even contemplated ordering room service in our room and sitting at the table, but then we saw the sun setting and decided to sit and enjoy it at their restaurant, Kitchen West. We sat and relaxed in our room for a bit, adjusted the temperature to where we wanted it (it was nice that it could get cold if we wanted it to, but since we're Phoenicians we didn't want to be in 60 degrees when we got back). We unpacked our bathing suits, got Bowie settled down for a nap with his toys, and then we made our way out to the pool.

No trip to The Scottsdale Resort would be complete without an afternoon spent by the pool. There was a lot of energy at the pool and we could hear it from our room--which we did not mind since we had every intention of heading out there. The sliding door off to the side from the bedroom of our suite had a set of chairs and an awning to give it some shade, and there was a pathway we could take right from our room to the pool if we wanted to take it. At the pool, they had live music playing and the water was the perfect temperature (the water in the pool was cold enough to cool off from the heat, but also not too cold which is always nice).

Their poolside bar staff was attentive and friendly, and even though they were very busy they continued to check up on us and everyone around us all afternoon making sure we had a drink if we wanted one. Adam's drink of choice was a frozen margarita, and I opted for something a little sweeter and enjoyed strawberry daiquiris. Between everyone around us enjoying the pool, the live music, and plenty of spots for shade to get out of the sun for a few minutes this was an excellent summer staycation spot for the afternoon.

After spending some time at the pool and then relaxing with Bowie in the room before getting ready, Adam and I went to have dinner at Kitchen West. It was nice to sit down and chat for an hour while we ate, and we did a bit of people watching since our table was facing the bar. For dinner, we started with their fried mesquite honey cheese curds. I've traveled to Wisconsin many times and had fried cheese curds, but for some reason, Adam had yet to try them still so we made sure he could have some. Then, we ordered our entrees. My entree was the cognac filet mignon, and Adam had their smoked brisket burger. While we were waiting for dinner, our waiter brought us a plate of their kiln bread with some tomato jam which was excellent.

While we had a nice time enjoying our dinner at Kitchen West, I have to say that our favorite meal while we were there was their breakfast. Adam and I immensely enjoyed their cowboy benedict and it was the best thing we ate all weekend. The cowboy benedict at Kitchen West is one of the best benedicts we've had in the valley! The braised short ribs were cooked and seasoned so perfectly, and really complimented everything on the plate (including their hollandaise). Prepared with traditional poached eggs, and oversized English muffin, caramelized onions, and plated next to a bed of red bliss potatoes, this was one of the most flavorful and indulgent benedict plates either of us had ever had.

  4. Oh my gosh, what a great place to stay! It's nice that dogs are welcome as well. We only have cats, so I don't think they'd appreciate coming. And I can so use one of those drinks!
